Getting Started – the Avalanche Family

October 8th, 2013 by

Avalanche Harley-Davidson is expanding its horizons and jumping into the bog world!

“Why?” you may ask. –Because we know when a family is full of diversity, it’s bound to have one hell of an experience! We are very fortunate to have so many people walk through our doors who love to share their stories with us, and now, we’d like to share one with you!

Recently Avalanche HD has dug deep into their pockets to help one of our own Fit Specialist in his time of need. John Queen (Fit Specialist) has been with Avalanche for just under a year now and has become an important part of our family. So when he came to us in his time of need – we didn’t hesitate to go all out in fundraising to support his family.

John’s son-in-law Phil Hastings, who turned 34 this past May, has been battling an extremely rare form of lung cancer since he was just a teen, and according to John, has been a great, strong man. Phil and his wife Nicole have twin boys, Jack and Foster, who are just over two, and will be welcoming a new little girl this month. Unfortunately, Phil’s health recently took a major turn for the worse, and he’s been referred to hospice. Phil is ineligible for medical insurance as well as life insurance, and their financial burden has become dire.

The last two Bike Nights at Avalanche H-D, staff and guests pulled together to help raise funds for this family. We quickly put together 4 raffles and with the generosity and help of everyone who attended the events, we raised over $1,200!

This Sunday, Oct 13 the staff at Avalanche has put together a Poker Run to benefit Phil and Nicole’s family. Registration for Phil’s Poker Run starts at Avalanche HD at 9:30 AM – last bike out at 10:30 AM. It’s free to ride and $10 to play.

We don’t know if we can call this paying it forward, but we do know that the biker community is generous and always ready to ride! – Especially for a good cause! It’s been a long and amazing journey working with Avalanche HD and these people we come to work with everyday have become more than just co-workers – we are a family! We hope you join us in supporting one of our own this Sunday and show the community once again just how generous the biker community really is!
